Google Business Profile: The 20-Minute Check Every Restaurant Owner Can Do

For a dine-in restaurant, the Google Business Profile is often the first impression a new guest has. Not the website, not Instagram: the panel that appears when someone searches your name or “restaurant near me”.

You do not need an agency to fix the basics. Set aside 20 minutes and run this checklist.

The 20-minute checklist

  1. Category. Is the primary category exactly what you are? A sushi restaurant listed as “Asian restaurant” loses clarity in search.
  2. Hours. Are today’s hours correct, including holiday changes? Wrong hours create real guest friction.
  3. Menu link. Does the menu button go to a page that loads fast on a phone and shows prices?
  4. Photos. Are the first five photos recent, bright and representative of the actual dining room and food?
  5. Phone and website. Do both match what is on your website and your front door?
  6. Q&A. Scroll the questions section. Are there unanswered questions a new guest would also ask?
  7. Services and attributes. Is dine-in, takeout or delivery set the way you actually operate?

Why this beats most ads

A profile fix is free, visible to every local searcher and measurable through profile insights: calls, direction requests and website clicks. Most restaurants we review find at least one broken element in the first five minutes.

Fix the profile first. Ads on top of a broken profile only buy more frustrated clicks.

When to run the check again

Run this 20-minute check once a month, and always after a big change: new hours, a menu change, a renovation, a new location or a new team member handling the profile.

Also set a reminder after every holiday weekend. Holiday hours are the most common reason a profile that was perfect in May is quietly wrong in July, and every wrong hour is a guest who drove to a closed door.

One owner habit we recommend: put the profile login in the same place as the alarm code and the POS password. If only one person in the building can update hours, the profile will be wrong the week that person is on vacation.
